Im joined to this new gym close to home and they have a spinning class section Id like to try. Ive never done this before (spinning class) but I want to give it a go. (Im a guy btw)
I have a couple of compression leggings for when I do my walks etc but only wear them under sweat pants. I weigh about 190lbs and am about 5ft 6in. I want to get to about 165lbs. Im stocky build and a little pudgy around the midsection but not fat, probably more heavier than I should be. I want to feel comfortable when in the class. I have a pair of cross training shoes that I will wear as well as a workout tank top thats not cotton.
With the spin class:
are the compression tights good enough to wear?
should I do I just wear my compression tights out in the open or not?
Would I be better of getting proper padded bike shorts?
Would I get too hot wearing sweat pants over the tights/shorts?
Should I just buy a baggier pair of short and wear them over the tights for other peoples comfort?
What is the normal etiquette people have when in class?
Id like comments from both ladies and gentlemen who have experience in this subject. But if you dont thats fine as long as your comment is constructive.

Taking a spinning class for practice will definitely help iron out the chinks and flaws in your technique without being on the road all the time. Its just like riding with an aerobar, it needs getting used to.
Taking a spinning class for practice will quickly bring you in top shape for the competition. This form of exercise is as they say easy to perform until you actually start spinning. If you want to get the best out of a spinning class use an instructor to guide you. There are no complicated steps that require proper hand eye coordination. All you need to do well is rest on the bike and move as fast as possible for as long as possible. As long as you focus on the miles, you will find that your body fat melts automatically and you quickly reach top fitness in a short time.
Just as you can injure yourself while riding a bicycle improperly, you can injure your body by spinning improperly as well. That is the reason why you should take a spinning class only with reputable gyms and clubs. Further, make sure there is an experienced expert around to guide you and prevent you from developing any fault in your technique.
Once you have gotten the hang of it, you will find that spending time on the spinning bicycle is as good as biking itself. The movement of the legs remains the same. In fact, you can make it difficult to move the wheel when riding on the spinning bicycle. This will improve your stamina.
As your confidence increases, you can start using your bicycle on the road along with your spinning classes. Keep practicing until you are absolutely certain of your ability to handle the bicycle on the road. Of course, if you like this form of exercise, you can always continue it although you should not over do it.

What is spinning, how to do it? From where to start and where will it take you?! Spinning is the hottest fitness activity lately and this is why we decided to write down some basic things about it! Lose weight, look and feel great with spinning exercises.
Spinning is the indoor cycling activity. It’s an indoor group class in which you exercise to energetic music on stationary bikes. It can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be, you can increase the resistance on the bike adjusting the dial as your fitness levels improve.
As any other fitness activity, no matter when you do it, at noon, in the evening or first thing in the morning, will energize your body and will bring up a great state of mind.
The equipment:
A pair of good trainers, sports leggings and a cotton T-shirt. You can also use a towel because you will probably sweat a lot and it is advisable to carry around a bottle of water, in case of dehydration. You may also buy a gel seat, because you may find the bike seats really uncomfortable.
About the workouts:
Stationary bikes have proven to be helpful in cardiovascular exercise and medical therapy because it increases blood circulation and in the transportation of oxygen to various parts of the body. Participants burn an average of 500 calories in 40 minutes.
Spinning exercise tones glutes and abdomen or core, buttocks and legs because these are the muscle groups that are directly affected. Toning is done by adjusting the resistance of the bike because the body balances while on a pedal and in doing so gets those often stubborn muscle groups to burn calories. The spinning enhances weight reduction. The main idea is that through spinning you get to tone your entire body! But, if you are keen in sculpting your lower body, this is really perfect exercises for you!
Spinning doesn’t work all leg muscles equally, so without some cross-training, you may develop larger thighs. Serious spin enthusiasts have to watch out for overuse injuries in their knees, hips and lower back. So, our advice is to combine spinning program with squats, calf raises, leg raises, leg circles and a variety of Pilates moves if you want to get to slender slimmer legs.
Spinning is a great social class because with maybe the exception of those taking part in their first class can take part in any available class. It’s this openness of classes that attracts participants of all ages, weights and fitness levels. So, don’t worry if you’ll feel uncomfortable in the first session, maybe you never rode a bike, maybe you don’t feel good sitting on that seat, maybe you are uncomfortable with your looks, but any problems will disappear after the first session.
So, want to lose weight, want to sculpt your body, this is the newest and hottest way to do it! Spinning activity is the trendiest thing when it comes to fitness exercises, you get to combine networking with losing weight and body sculpting.

Spinning is a stationary indoor cycling workout bringing athletic training programmes to people of all fitness levels. Spinning incorporates cycling, choreography and motivational coaching techniques to give you a completely safe, aerobic, adrenaline ride. Spinning is primarily an anaerobic exercise, pulling energy from your reserves and building up your muscular endurance over an extended period of time. Spinning is an aerobic exercise created to strengthen and tone your leg muscles. It is low impact exercise and therefore much healthier for your joints.
So whether you are a dedicated cyclist, dedicated couch potato or somewhere in between, looking for an enjoyable, unique form of exercise with amazing health benefits, why not give spinning a go. The heart rate based workouts integrate music, camaraderie and visualization in a complete mind/body exercise program and may emphasize endurance, sprinting, intervals, strength, or a number of other fitness goals. Participants burn an average of 500 calories in 40 minutes of non-impact, individually-paced cardiovascular exercise.
Spinning is usually performed in an “class like” atmosphere with motivating music playing while the instructor takes you through the workout using visualization techniques, assisting your imagination into feeling as if you are cycling over hills and through valleys. Used correctly, indoor riding can be a key component of a broad based cycling training program, particulary during the winter months.
Spinning Workout
A spinning workout will get your heart racing as you pedal to upbeat music. More and more people are recognizing the cardiovascular and muscle toning benefits of these workouts, while appreciating the minimal impact on their joints. Spinning is a great social class because with maybe the exception of those taking part in their first class can take part in any available class. It’s this openness of classes that attracts participants of all ages, weights and fitness levels. As you are only pushing yourself there is no reason a relative beginner can’t go with a friend who has been spinning for years.
Spinning brings the fun of outdoor activity inside to the aerobic studio. In fact, many who enjoy outdoor activities turn to spinning when the weather is bad or it is dark out. In addition, spinning allows people of different skill levels to be together in one place, where biking or running outdoors usually leads to separation and the loss of the group experience.
If you’re interested in spinning classes and decide to participate, you’ll go through five distinct levels (zones) of intensity during a class. These zones are warm up, endurance, strength, interval, and race. In a typical one hour class, you’ll move between the levels, which will help improve your cardiovascular fitness level.
When you enjoy your workout, you’re most likely to stick with it for the long term. Consistency with any cardio workout is the best way to lead a healthy lifestyle. The degree to which a cardio workout burns fat depends on the intensity of the exercise.

One Formal Walk and Many Informal Walks
Devote time to one major walking (or running or some other type of cardio) session at least a few times a week. Start with whatever amount of time you can physically maintain, increasing the duration each week by about five minutes. Do intervals for most of your walk. That means doing bursts of faster walking (or running, depending on your fitness) that will seriously increase your heart rate and work your muscles to the max. You can do your intervals outside or on a treadmill. Start by walking (or jogging) five minutes at your usual pace to warm up. Then alternate two minutes of faster walking or running with two minutes of recovery walking or running. Your faster pace should feel like an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 in intensity, and your easy pace should be a 4 or 5. If you prefer to cycle, row, or do some other form of cardio, go right ahead, alternating two minutes of faster-paced work with two minutes of recovery exercise.

I do spinning 3 times a week (every other day).I feel fine.I also do strength training 3 times a week.I am wondering if I should cut back my strength training to twice weekly since I get such a good workout on my spinning days.I am really enjoying spinning,and its easier on my knees than regular biking

Spinning is a cardiovascular cycling workout on a stationary bike on which the tension can be increased, decreased, mileage and lapsed time is kept by a small computer, and calories burned and heart rate can be tracked by using an inexpensive additional heart monitor. When starting a training program, it is recommended to do a cycling-specific fitness test, to determine your maximum heart rate, lung capacity, power and/or lactate threshold.

Unlike a regular exercise bike workout, spinning involves a variety of movements and speeds, with spinners sometimes standing on the pedals and other times sitting like normal, somtimes pedaling at top speed and other times recovering at a slower pace.
And unlike most modern exercise bikes, a spinner has a large flywheel front wheel, meaning there is real momentum and resistance. But mainly you don’t stop pedalling, even for a second, because aerobic exercise brings the greatest positive effects. In the main zone, you are taken through various speeds and positions of cycling which ensure your back, feet and stomach get excellent exercise, keeping in mind your capacity and body type. Summer is upon us and it is the perfect time to get lean and in shape. In this email I want to share with you my personal method for getting in shape and staying that way year round
I will discuss the three stages
Stage 1 is aerobics!
Yes I know many people can’t stand it and I was no exception to this rule, until I found spinning! Spinning exercise or riding on a stationary bike is not only powerfully effective at burning fat (I burn 900 calories in 50 minutes) it is also fun and challenging!
I can’t show you how to perform the right spinning exercise here because your best bet is to join a spinning exercise class or get your own spin bike with a video. But I will show you the best way to use spinning exercises to slice of body fat
The best way to burn fat with spinning is to do interval training. What is interval training is when you sprint or run or cycle fast/ intensely for 2 minutes and then lower (reduce the speed and intensity) for a certain interval and then repeat the process.. interval training usually last for 40-50 minutes
Doing interval training burns far more calories than regular aerobics and also increases your metabolic rate-so you will burn fat even after you finish exercising and at rest
The best frequency of interval training is 4 days a week is all you need if you are 20 pounds overweight- 50 minutes a shot
If you are over 30 pounds overweight perform a low intensity (don’t do interval training in the beginning) spinning exercise session 5 days a week
if you really want to drop 10-12 lbs in a 2 week period then spin (interval training) twice a day for 2 weeks (5 days a week), I call this the emergency fat loss session and it should not be used longer than 2 weeks-as it will lead to overtraining.
Want to make spinning twice as effective and get your body to burn fat at an accelerated pace even whiles you sleep! Then add the FastMuscles program to your schedule
Why? For one it requires very little training, so you wont feel tired or over trained-you can then use all your extra energy on spinning and burning fat.
Third stage – Nutrition! If you do things right –you will not need a special diet! Simply eat clean foods and stay away from the fried and fatty foods. Any spinning exercise will burn tremendous amounts of calories, in 50 minutes you can burn 600-800 calories a session
Third you don’t need supplements—supplements are needed only if your diet is poor. There are no magic supplements out there so don’t waste your money

If you’re like me, the first time you heard that a friend was taking a spinning class, you thought they were making yarn for knitting.
Spinning is, of course, a popular form of exercise that involves riding a stationary bicycle.
It became really popular a number of years ago and it revolutionized the sport of biking. With other exercise classes being so popular, this one had some extra advantages to it: it appeals to the joy of riding a bike, which is something that most people can relate to. Almost everyone can remember learning to ride a bike as a child, and the thrill when the training wheels finally came off.
Even those who don’t own their own bicycles can enjoy spinning, which is another one of its appeals.
A workout in spinning class isn’t quite the same as riding the old stationary bicycles you see being sold at yard sales. The spinning bike is closer to an actual road bike than a piece of exercise equipment.
The bike has an adjustable seat, just like a real bicycle, so you can find the perfect height for your build. The bicycle pedals have clips to prevent your feet from slipping out.
Some spinning studios even simulate road conditions, from going up hills to moving around steep turns. All the bikes in the class are synchronized so that all the students are turning together.
A spinning class is similar to other aerobic workouts in that there is an instructor at the front facing you, with music playing in the background to keep things interesting. The workout varies between easy pedaling and more challenging work.
And you tend to get a better workout in a class than you would just riding a stationary gym bike by yourself. This is mostly because of the camaraderie of everyone working out at once.
When you have the support of those around you, you tend to push yourself harder because everyone is doing it.
And the instructor knows exactly when to give encouragement and what kind to give that will allow you to achieve your highest potential.
Another benefit that taking a spinning class has over working out alone, even on a real bike; it is impossible to slack off. But when you work out alone, if you don’t push yourself, nobody will know.
Whatever your reasons, if you enjoy riding a bike outside, try taking a spinning class.
